USM SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP: FOCUS ON REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND WASTE
USM, KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 9 February 2026 – The second edition of the Sustainability Workshop at the Health Campus level was successfully held at Min House Camp today, with participation from Sustainability Officers appointed at each Responsibility Centre (PTJ) of the Health Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

The workshop, which was also attended by the Campus Director of the Health Campus, Professor Dato’ Dr. Shaiful Bahari Ismail, aimed to strengthen the implementation of the campus sustainability agenda through more comprehensive, high-impact and long-term planning.

It also served as a strategic platform to assess, refine and enhance existing sustainability plans, while generating new ideas towards reducing negative environmental impacts and resource wastage.

This edition of the workshop featured a sharing session by the USM Campus Sejahtera Coordinator, Dr. Normaliza Abdul Manaf, on sustainability guidelines, data collection and scoring, as well as other relevant sustainability information, which is expected to serve as an effective reference in implementing the sustainability agenda at the Health Campus.

In addition, the workshop saw the appointment of more sustainability officers at the PTJ level, reflecting the management’s commitment to mainstreaming sustainability initiatives within each PTJ, while also providing newly appointed officers with exposure to the direction, initiatives and their strategic roles within the Health Campus sustainability ecosystem.

Appreciation was also presented to PTJs that achieved the Five (5) Leaves recognition in last year’s Green Office Audit, setting a benchmark for other PTJs in strengthening a sustainable work culture within their respective departments.
